ONGOSchool - active learning in motion
People have been made by Mother Nature to move. The same can be said when it comes to the brain. Movement supports the flow of blood in the body, and coordinated movements improve the nerve system’s functionality. Which leads us to the essentials of the ONGOSchool: It fosters movement while sitting. This is achieved through the use of a rounded foot, a fixed seat, and the elimination of a backrest.
When developing ONGOSchool, not only did we consider the requirements for movement, but also issues such as sustainability, price, and, of course, design and ergonomics. For example, to meet the need for sustainability and price, we’ve made the foot of sustainable material and rely on simple components.
The underside of the base plate has a soft, 100% recycled coating. The plate itself is made of an innovative composite material made of wood and plastic and is available in 3 colours. Ergonomics are also catered to: the comfortable edge, which makes ONGO®School easy to grip; the rough seating surface to ensure the child does not fall when teetering; and the large foot (39 cm/15 in.) diameter, which allows for plenty of movement while providing stability.
ONGO®School is available in a range of refreshing colors and height adjustable gas spring in regular and tall.
The high-quality craftsmanship that has gone into the making ONGO®School and its timeless form meet the highest requirements for sustainability. Like all ONGO® products, ONGO®School also contributes to a positive environmental footprint by being made in Germany

Further Information
In schools, as well as during homework or other desk activities, children cannot avoid sitting. However, static sitting without movement can lead to serious health issues and even negatively impact performance. The ONGO®School is a special stool for children that brings a multifaceted interpretation to dynamic sitting. And that's not all. In its design, the manufacturer has not only focused on implementing dynamic sitting but also on comprehensive ergonomics, sustainability, modern style, and an extremely attractive price-performance ratio.
The importance of proper sitting is clearly confirmed by science. Studies show that schoolchildren are often plagued by back pain from an early age, particularly in the lumbar region. According to pediatric orthopedists, over one percent of seven-year-olds suffer from lower back pain or problems. By the age of ten, six percent of children report issues in this area, and among 14 to 18-year-olds, the number of affected individuals rises significantly to nearly 20 percent.
In most cases, improper strain and lack of movement are the main causes of back pain. And there’s a reason for that: schoolchildren are typically forced to spend more than half of their day in a seated position. At home, kids also spend additional time sitting at their desks while doing homework or studying. When conventional desk chairs are used, the back is subjected to an extremely one-sided strain for long periods, leading to pain and problems in the back area. With the new ONGO School children's stool, such issues are now a thing of the past.
Back experts advocate for what is known as 'dynamic sitting.' This type of sitting is clearly healthier for children compared to rigid sitting, as it prevents children from being stuck to their desk chairs. Rigid sitting often leads to painful complaints in the back and shoulder areas. Dynamic sitting on the ONGO School stool for children helps prevent such issues. Instead, by continuously changing sitting positions, different muscle groups are regularly strengthened. Additionally—and this is especially important for students—dynamic sitting improves overall concentration, as it increases blood flow to the brain compared to a more rigid sitting posture. Moreover, coordinated movement has been proven to enhance the functionality of the entire nervous system.
With the ONGO School, we now introduce a brand-new stool for children, explicitly based on these findings. With a firm seat, a rounded base, and the absence of a backrest, our new model from the ONGO series promotes sustainable movement while sitting. Additionally, two factors enhance the ergonomics of dynamic sitting.
The special children's stool features a large base with an impressive diameter of 39 centimeters, allowing for wide-ranging movements without sacrificing stability. Moreover, the ONGO School stool for children has a textured seat surface to prevent slipping during rocking movements. This unique stool for children enables active learning through movement.
The ONGO School children's stool is available with a seat in four different color options and in two distinct versions. The ONGO School fix model has fixed heights ranging from 38 to 51 centimeters, while the ONGO School flex version is height-adjustable via a gas lift, allowing a maximum height of 62 centimeters. Both versions feature a black column and an elegant base, ensuring both visual appeal and robustness with stability. The manufacturer has made no compromises in material selection. All materials and craftsmanship are of high quality, giving the timelessly designed children's stool a long lifespan.
